My Blog is not pretty

So I am VERY new at this blogging thing, but how do you get the pretty header at the top or get someone to design one for you? I need to figure this out. Take a look at the quirkybirds blog that I follow and see what I mean.

    My blog was a contender for Ugly Blog of the Year until my friend Kim made me a cute header. She is a graphic designer and went to UGA. I put a link to her site in my blog (can't remember which post it's in) if you want to contact her. If you're remotely computer savvy it's probably not too hard to make one on your own, but I am Photoshop challenged.
